March saw some relevant new social media updates that will help you to be more effective, resourceful and efficient in your social media marketing for your business.
Don’t miss my Monthly Tip at the end.
Here we go…
Facebook Adds New Daily Video Breakdown: Facebook added new daily breakdowns for video metrics, which gives Page owners a better understanding of when their audiences are watching their videos and provides a more detailed picture of performance:
- Minutes Viewed: Total minutes of watch time spent on the video on a particular day.
- Views: Number of times your video was viewed on a particular day.
- 10-second views: Number of times the video was viewed to 10 seconds on a particular day. If the video is shorter than 10 seconds, this metric refers to the number of times people viewed at least 97 percent of the video.
Pinterest Opens Pinterest Ads Manager to all SMBs and Rolls Out Additional Targeting Options: Pinterest Ads Manager is a simple ads tool designed for small and mid-sized businesses and let’s marketers create, manage and track the success of Promoted Pins. With this, Pinterest is also rolling out more forms of targeting. These targeting options will ensure that you are reaching the right audience at the right time and include:
- Interest targeting
- Keyword targeting
- Customer database targeting
Promoted Pins are viral and continue to drive conversions even after your campaign has ended.
Instagram Introduces Feed Algorithm to Show Best Posts First: The inevitable has happened. Instagram announced that image feeds will be sorted to bring the most interesting or relevant posts first.
The new Instagram algorithm shifts the order of photos and videos in your feed “based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting, and the timeliness of the post.”
Facebook has long had a News Feed algorithm, one that has drawn the ire of users and marketers alike. Twitter has toyed with a formula to surface the most relevant tweets first — and it has allowed the service to sell prime timeline real estate to advertisers. Now, Facebook-owned Instagram is following suit.
Instagram, claiming that people miss 70 percent of the content on their feeds, says it wants to get this right.
How do you feel about a potential Instagram feed algorithm?
LinkedIn Introduces Account Targeting: This new functionality makes it possible for marketers to tailor their Sponsored Updates or Sponsored InMail campaigns to a priority list of accounts. This ability, combined with LinkedIn’s profile targeting, will allow marketers to market products and generate opportunities to the right personas within the accounts that matter most to them. LinkedIn Account Targeting is available to customers purchasing Sponsored InMail and Sponsored Updates through a LinkedIn account representative — Linkedin plans to expand this to self-serve clients over time.
