After the slow month of April, May seems to be back on track with every other fast-paced, exciting month in the world of social media. Let’s dive right in!
Facebook Live! Facebook Live lets you broadcast whatever your smartphone can see for up to 90 minutes at a time. Its live video streaming tool instantly delivers an outlet for important content distribution – perfect for small business and marketers all over the world (provided you have a good connection). It’s awesome because live video removes the barriers between brand and customer, allowing you to put a face to the company and to speak directly and casually to them, whether you are offering thought leadership, or insights into your solutions. Check out these 8 Best Practices for Facebook Live.

Facebook Live Rolls Out Continuous Video Streaming: This enables you to live video stream persistently for 24-hours. Hundreds of people can experience the exact same moment at the exact same time. Unlike Facebook Live, you won’t be able to permanently save and share the video.
Twitter Removes URLs and Photos from 140-Character Count: Finally! Tweets will now be a full 140-character count, which is great, as it allows you to express so much more, even when you post a photo or a URL. @names will also no longer take up space in the 140-character count, which means you no longer have to penny pinch and use awkward abbreviations. Great news for marketers looking for better ways to express themselves on Twitter.
Twitter Opens Audience Platform Worldwide: Twitter now allows advertisers to extend their campaigns to all 800,000 million visitors around the world, across the Twitter website or any of the many websites and mobile apps. This is great news for small businesses who wish to reach a wider global audience.
Twitter Introduces New Ad Formats: Account manager clients only can now upload creative formats in standard IAB ad sizes, in addition to transforming their Promoted Tweets into interstitials, banners and native ads. This is fantastic news for advertisers who want to test their creatives for a variety of campaigns that extend beyond Twitter.
WhatsApp Releases an Official Desktop App: The messenger service launched a new desktop app for Windows 8+ and Mac OS 10.9+. The app suncs with your WhatsApp mobile device account. What’s great about it? You now have a new way to stay in touch when you’re busy working on your computer – no need to switch between devices. The desktop app runs natively on your desktop and has support for a variety of functions, such as desktop notifications and better keyboard shortcuts.
Instagram Introduces New Analytics: In a bid to helping small businesses make the most of their Instagram marketing, the network developed new business profiles with an amazing new feature: Instagram analytics. This is great news, because it will show you the best times to post, based on the times and days your followers are on Instagram, along with post impressions, follower demographics and much more.
Instagram’s New Look: Instagram also unveiled their sleek new look recently. Not only did they get a new icon, but the user interface has a simpler new design that ensures the focus stays on your posts. The functions remain the same. Do you love it, or hate it? Feel free to vent in the comments below! ?
LinkedIn Launches New Advertising Tools & Features for Campaign Manager: The network is making advertising easier with a range of new tools. Now you can save targeting templates, restart or archive completed campaigns, increase ad limits on your campaigns and apply new social actions on sponsored content. One of the most exciting new features, which should become available in early June, allows you to target your audience by “years of experience”. This is great news for advertisers, because the combination of new advertising tools will make the most of your efforts and allow you to connect with the right professionals.
